Your opponent may have been reading this list of Oklahoma Gin Rummy Strategy tips just as you have, so it is critical that you be as protective as possible of your hand during play. By retrieving a card from the discard pile, your opponent (if they are paying close attention) can sometimes figure out which sets or runs you may be trying to form. This may cause your opponent to hold onto a specific piece of their deadwood if they believe discarding it will help to improve your hand. If the perfect card is tossed into the discard pile just at the opportune time, you may wish to go ahead and take that card while it’s available. But weigh your options carefully with each draw.

Forming triangle hands may take a little patience, but the payoff will be worth it. A triangle hand is a group of cards that don’t yet form a complete meld, but that maximize your meld forming chances. For an example, a triangle hand could be a Four of Clubs, a Four of Hearts, and a Five of Hearts. With this one triangle, you now have four opportunities to complete a meld. So if the next discard card is the Three of Hearts, the Six of Hearts, the Four of Diamonds or the Four of Spades, you’ve got a new meld!
Like many other casino games, the Sevens are considered a lucky element of an effective Oklahoma Gin Rummy Strategy. Considered to be a quite functional and valuable card, they are very often used to build run melds, and mathematically they can form the highest available number of run melds. So hang onto those Sevens! If your observant playing methods lead you to believe that your opponent may be trying to form a run meld of Hearts, you may not want to discard that Seven of Hearts in your hand. And if you’re lucky enough to see a Seven card in the discard pile, chances are fairly good that your opponent may not have any other Seven cards nor any cards sequentially near the Seven (such as a Five or a Six).
A truly fun element of a successful Oklahoma Gin Rummy Strategy is to get your opponent to take your bait. Baiting, sometimes referred to as Advertising, Chumming, Salesman, or Fishing, is an attempt at trickery whereby you purposefully discard a specific card in order to try to hopefully then have your opponent also discard a card of the same suit. Some very experienced players will automatically expect that the first few discards from their opponent’s hands to be bait cards. But use caution that you don't also fall for the same bait! By taking these tips with some dedicated practice and a few good friends on which to try out your Oklahoma Gin Rummy Strategy, your next game may be your very best yet!
